Requires: at least one second level spot for spiritual weapon, either to multi-class into wizard or take the magic initiate feat for find familiar, good deception, and invoke duplicity.*
Use invoke duplicity before your match and send in your copy. Use spiritual weapon as if you were in the targets space. Use your familiar to watch the battle from the stands and listen into what your opponent is saying. When he asks why he can't hit you, lie and say it's a unique magic used to make yourself intangible. Grants you one free minute of taking no damage up to twice per long rest. At 7th level after that minute is up if your opponent is still alive you can use dimensional door to drop yourself into the fray.
This idea could also work if your cart gets attacked by bandits, instead of sending yourself out to fight just send your dupe. Save the damage for fights later in the day.
*Depending on if your DM allows your illusion to speak you may need to prepare minor illusion to give your dupe a voice.
Also I would recommend a weasel for your familiar to get advantage on perception checks that require hearing. (It also gives advantage on smell if that's something that's needed.)
Most likely if you do this strategy you will be nearby and probably be able to see and hear what is happening so I don't see the point of find familiar. You could take the feat great weapon master to add damage. perhaps multiclass into paladin to get compelled duel? Maybe you could be really nearby but with disguise self on. Seems like a good idea!
