I’m making a Warforged, Far Traveller, Warlock of the Archfey, Pact of the Chain for an upcoming Disney themed, Kingdom Hearts style mini campaign, starting at lvl5 where the characters are meant to be a little dark and not exclusively the original.
Everyone else is going the obvious routes, so I wanted to get creative (choices like Human Thief for Aladdin, Human Storm Sorcerer for Elsa, Human Ranger for Merida ... there is a Noble Firbolg Totem Barb as Beast, but still...). So I’ve decided to go as Pinocchio and Jiminy and I’ve changed the name to Pine-Oak Yoke and Jiminy Quasit. Pine-Oak Yoke was simply a winch, an assembly assistant for an Artificer who one night wished out loud he just had someone to talk to on his long shifts. An Archfey heard, granted the wish and the pine and oak winch, or yoke, gained sentience. Since then, he’s ignored his master and left ‘home’ in search of a way to feel like a living thing does.
Spells wise, I’ve taken EB, Friends, Infestation (crickets/locusts), Faerie Fire, Sleep, Earthbind, Counterspell, Dispel Magic and Vampiric Touch (“I want to feel what you feel!”). Any better suggestions for flavour? I’d like him to be support moreso. Invocations? Agonising Blast and Beast Speech for sure, but what else? Thief of Five Fates? Any better suggestions for flavour? What other RP suggestions do you reckon? I’m probs gonna slice off the occasional face or lips or eye lids and try to wear them to express feelings ‘like a living does’, I’m gonna lie a lot and use whatever the DM does about my nose as a rapier or something. Imma ask A LOT of questions! Jiminy will offer lots of (probably bad) advice and spam the Help Action.
I dunno... am I stretching? Should I just go generic too? Gaston as a Ranger? Pocahontas as Druid?

The base concept looks fine. It's creative to play a Warforged in a fairy tale Disney-esque setting. I'm curious why you chose Beast Speech when your character's goal is to become more human. You can automatically communicate with your familiar without any spells. Unless your PC's role models are Rangers or Druids, talking to beasts is not likely to bring it closer to most of humanity. If you want to up the creepiness factor, I recommend Maddening Hex and Mire the Mind. If your character has any memories of being treated as an object from before gaining sentience, it would make sense that you should want to explore treating people as objects, so being able to Slow opponents and using Hold Person to paralyze some of them would be quite appropriate.

Mate! That’s all very brilliant and aspects I hadn’t thought of! I was going for Beast Speech purely because every Disney character seems to be able to talk to animals in Disney stories hahah but that’s a VERY appropriate angle to take instead with the Maddening Hex or Hold Person. Thank you!

This sounds good to me.

You're welcome. It's good to hear about really innovative theme builds like yours. I'm sure it will inspire me somewhere down the road...
