So i was playing Decent Into Avernes and if you know of this adventure SPOILERS IF YOU DONT KNOW AND DONT WANT TO KNOW the party is required to do a dire decision, they are required to wield the Sword Of Zariel, and in doing so the character becomes Lawful Good, my current character at the time who was named Draca was Neutral Good, she made a sacrifice and wielded the sword, oh how ive regretted my decision now. See the sword prevent the alignment to be changed in any magical or god way, it is permanent even if the sword is gone or broken. And see this takes away every character trait that she had, she always lied, always bend the rules, and well NOT Lawful Good, so this hurts my character and the majority of the party want to bring the old Draca back how can they do this without going against her will, with no magic or no god?
As long as the lying or "bending" rules isn't breaking the law, who cares right?
The only real difference between a lawful good and neutral good character is the neutral character will break the law if pressured, or if there is no chance of getting caught.
Lawful doesn't need to mean moral. For instance a lawful evil character would lie and "bend the rules" continuously. Maybe your character was never good to begin with, but neutral?
I do agree that most people think Lawful is a lot 'worse' than it really is.
A Lawful character should:
Respect the laws of a nation (or publicly state otherwise and demand the rulers resign, but they can run away after they do it).
Have a code and follow it. Examples: Fight however they consider to be fair. Never steal from the 'undeserving'. Never use Mind Controlling magic.
Keep their word.
But that does not mean they can not:
Lie (especially if they have a code about it. I do not lie to anyone that saved my life. I like to joking says things like "Yeah, it's not like I am a rogue,, then I would TOTALLY steal from you.")
Work extra hard to find loopholes - especially if they gleefully explain how. (see above) For example, "I said I would not steal from YOU, not your children." as you run away. Or my personal favorite "Yesterday I promised not to cheat you for a month. Today is May 1st."

Magic and divine intervention can't fix it, but nothing stopping good old mortal temptation.

Or "I didn't say which month." ; )
