I’m currently playing a level 16 Hexblade and will probably hit 17 next session. Our healer hasn’t been reliably be able to attend lately ( not his fault). I’ve been toying with the idea of taking a level or 2 in divine soul sorc (ot cleric) to help our paladin as a back up healer. My question is: would it be worth it at this point. (If I take healing word I could cast it as a level 5). Or should I just stay the course?
Healing Word is very good for a backup healing option. Even using your lvl1 slots from the Sorcerer dip, you would be able to get someone back on their feet and still contribute with either weapon attacks or an attack cantrip. That said, it is a hard choice considering you will be getting your 9th level Arcanum AND your 4th spell slot... sometimes a well used 9th level spell can prevent someone from needing healing in the first place... What I would probably suggest, would be that you take your 17th level in warlock and then delay your last invocation to take a sorcerer level at 18th character level if there are still some sketchy moments in terms of healing.
Depending on your DM, you might be able to persuade them to allow you to change one of your ASI/Feats to the Healer feat... but without knowing your build its hard to say if that would be giving up too much (and not all dm's allow retcon of that level).
You could also talk to your dm about being able to buy a Staff of Healing and being able to use it as a Warlock (normally its cleric/druid/bard). Or other healing items that could help the party get through some tight spots.
Another option would be Inspiring Leader feat. Character level plus charisma modifier temporary HP to up to 6 creatures once per long or short rest would be a fair amount of "healing". Assuming +5 charisma, that would be 22 temp HP at 17th level. That could be enough of a bump to push your party over the top if retconned ASI is allowed. For a d8 class with a +1 modifier, that's almost 4 levels worth of HP to go on top of your normal HP and close to 3 levels of a d10 with a +1 or +2. It also requires no resources aside from the feat and 10 minutes per rest (which could be part of the rest). Plus, it stacks with whatever healing that you do decide to take. Classes and spells that rely on temp HP usually don't play well with the feat, but that can be worked around or that character can simply choose the temp HP that their feature or spell requires
I was allowed to retcon my ASI and took inspiring leader. So maybe I can get my 9th level arcana and then maybe dip into healer. 9th level is level 17 which will probably be tomorrow (hopefully, our wizard died last session) thanks for the help.

I would say go for it. Sounds good. Just remember that you will be missing out on your 9th level Arcanum, but in your case it is justified.
