Hello! I know there is more then likely a thread out there filled with tips and if someone has a link to it I will go there for this. I am returning to 5e after 5 years of not being able to play due to life changes and session day changes I could not accommodate. I am looking at an artificer as my first character and was wondering if anyone could give me some tips not to min-max but to make it more fun. I'v always played power characters in pathfinder and don't really enjoy it as much so I'm really looking into a fun character without making him a hindrance to my party.
Well, at risk of staying the obvious, if you don’t want to min-max, then just don’t. For example, while you’ll still want int to be you highest score, don’t worry about which race will give you a bonus, and instead pick one that seems like it will be interesting. I’d suggest not even looking at racial features, and just pick one that speaks to you, let the bonuses fall where they may. To me, that’s the biggest way to min-max is to choose a race just for the ability scores bonuses. Do something similar with background. Don’t say you really want a specific tool or skill proficiency and look for the background that gives it to you. Instead pick one that fits your character concept, and then just take what it gives you. You’ll find ways to be useful, it’s pretty hard to make a bad character in this edition.

Hello!

So, any tips?
