Greetings, ladies and gentlemen. I come to this forum seeking help for creating a recurring antagonist for a campaign I'm mastering: for reasons I won't elaborate upon (It would take forever) this NPC should be created following the same rules PCs do (complete with standard array for stats), and he should be based on Broly, the iconic antagonist from Dragonball movies. For those who're not familiar with him, Broly is a character with the following major traits:
1) He's a giant hulking man
2) He can enter a more powerful mode at will
3) He's a Dragonball character, so he fights unarmed and can throw around energy projectiles
4) He can create a barrier to further enhance his already massive toughness.
So yeah, from my experience with 5e it seems having ALL these traits simultaneously would be nigh impossible, so I would like you guys to help me figure out a build that can have as many of these traits as possible, while being reasonably effective in actual combat. The first two traits seem to point at barbarian, the third one at monk (sun soul even has the "ki blasts"), or I could go with some manner of caster: the warlock for example can emulate the barrier with Armor of Agatys and the ki blasts with, you guessed it, Eldritch Blast, but without the monk fighting unarmed is pretty much off the table, and of course EB cannot be cast while raging.
So yeah, this is the kind of dilemma I'm facing, I hope you guys will be able to help me resolve it. As a side note, our campaign will end somewhere in the level 13-15 range, and the players are supposed to run into this antagonist multiple times: each time he'll be at a level that will scale with their own, the first time being met around level 5-7, and the last time at the tail end of the campaign. So yeah, I'm going to need tips about a range of levels from middle to high, rather than just a level 20 build.
Monk with a 1-level dip into barbarian to give you rage. Take the magic initiate:warlock feat and grab Eldritch blast and armor of agathys as your spells.
Casting while raging can be a problem, but otherwise it could fit well.
Broly the original Dragon Ball character is specifically built to be overpowered and ridiculous. Normal PC build rules won't really produce a character that fits the template, as the original inspiration character is kind of reliant on being very much more than normal.
Your best bet would be Sun Soul monk, to get the ki blasts and unarmed abilities. The monk's Patient Defense could be reflavored as a barrier of power making it more difficult to land effective blows; it's still mechanically "the Dodge action", but rather than being evasive it represents the enemy's ability to make it harder to harm him. I wouldn't even describe it as "dodging", I'd describe it as Muscle Barrier or what-have-you that gives enemies disadvantage on their attacks.
Barbaric rage is as close as you're going to get to Supah Saiyan, but it'd mean the character is extremely MAD, requiring high scores in Strength, Dex, Con, AND Wisdom. Theoretically you could ignore Wisdom and just not bother with Monk Unarmored Defense or the Monk's WIS save stuff, but you'll need a minimum 13in all four simply to be allowed to make the multiclass by normal rules.
You could fudge this by giving the character magic items; a Belt of Giant Strength gives "Broly" a powerful attacking stat regardless of what his actual stats are, but you'd need to be willing to let him rely in part on exterior magic rather than just his own swolitude. That may be the route you have to take; D&D isn't really built to allow people to make godawful ridicu-huge PCs without fudging the rules, if this guy is supposed to be a match for an entire group of PCs whilst using the same rules they do for Plot Reasons, he's going to need some sort of edge they don't have. A heavy load of powerful magic gear might be that edge.

This is just picking at straws, but you wouldn't need 13 con just to multiclass. Barbarian only requires 13 strength while monk requires 13 dex and wis. Barbarians want constitution like it's a required stat, but it's not.
Yurei's idea to just reflavor Patient Defense as a barrier while making the character a Sun Soul Monk/Barb seems like it satisfies the concept the most succinctly... I'd say just take Barb up to level 3 to get Bear Totem so his defense is just insane, then go monk the rest of the way to focus on being as much of an unarmed butt kicker as possible
Possibly look at Rune Knight (UA) fighter as this can physically make you swell to large size and do more damage (as a DM I see monk fists as a weapon and would add the damage onto them). I think the feel with the monk options others expressed would be cool.
When an aasimar transforms, they basically start dealing Saiyan amounts of damage. They get a large static bonus, and it lasts for a while, entered as a bonus action, so it helps the at will part. The obvious answer is still monk, unless you really wanted to just beef up strength and use normal unarmed strikes as something that could cast magic and still have reasonable health. That route could be a fighter, but I don't think any fighting style could help much.
On the bright side of fighter, second wind and action surge for more punch time. Then eldritch knight you could pick up cantrips and evocation spells, since you won't need anything other than evocation to replicate Broly.
well rune knight makes you get to large size if UA is OK pick that up with the variant fighting style for unarmed fighting and you could do something close to broly. then grab the Magic Initiate warlock gets you eldritch blast, thunderclap; arms of hadar or hex for extra dmg re-flavored as kai blasts. if your going for his unarmored look your gana need high dex and Bracers of Defense or another way to get mage armor. (you could go magic initiate sorc get thunderclap and mage armor + 1 other cantrip )
I personally would go with Barb4/Monk16 with protector aasimar as your race. For barbarian, choose path of zealot to get even more radiant damage per turn and you also have rage, for the 4th level, you could choose ASI with STR and DEX but I would personally go with the tough feat. Radiant soul is basically a super saiyan and it lets you fly. For monk, choose sun soul, this would give you ki blasts and such, it would also give you a giant ki blast at 11th level of Sun Soul monk which is technically in the movie. you could reflavor searing arc strike and make the burning hands spell come out of your mouth instead of hands, mechanically it's no different.

Thanks in advance for the help!
Create a monk, either a Sun Sol or a Four Element one.
Make the following changes:
d12 hitdice or max hp each lvl.
Give him rage ability, while raged give him resistance to all damage except psychic. ( 3 lvls of barbarian)
Make all his Monk skills (Including unarmored defence) Str based instead of Wis
stats could be 15 14 12 8 13 10
Choose the Halforc race
Give him ASI and a Feat at the apropriate lvls. Possible Feats: Retaliate, Sentinel, Tough, Resiliant.
Allow to spend ki points to use a Reaction more then once.

Monk 6/Barbarien 3
I manually made the following changes:
I would also add +2 to all DCs to reflect that they are str based not wis.

Also known as CrafterB and DankMemer.
Here, have some homebrew classes! Subclasses to? Why not races. Feats, feats as well. I have a lot of magic items. Lastly I got monsters, fun, fun times.

monk/spore druid mechanically could work, with some reflavoring
