So I know you can't cast or concentrate while raging. However, does it count if I'm not raging and use absorb spell, then I rage? Will I get the damage buff? I'm not casting the spell again after all and I'm not concentrating on it.
Yes, you cannot concentrate on spells while raging, but you can benefit from the effects of spells that other people cast on you, or non-concentration spells that you cast on yourself prior to going into a Rage.
Absorb Elements is a self targeting spell cast using a reaction which means that other people can't cast it on you and you would cast it on yourself as a result of being it with an elemental attack, So it does not have any interaction with a barbarian rage - either you are raging so you can't cast it, or you aren't raging so you can cast it.
The fact that it is cast as a reaction means that you don't cast it during your tun, you cast it as a reaction to someone attacking you. Therefore you cannot cast it and then go into rage as it is not your turn yet.
Sure you could do that but the likelihood of it actually happening in game is ridiculously small. So you walk through a wall of fire taking 5d8 damage, halved for making the saving throw and halved again for the absorb elements spell. So just a small amount of damage. Then you bonus action rage, then you use your regular action to attack something otherwise your rage is wasted, and then your turn is over. So yes you could technically do it but even if you were able to do so then why would you? Deliberately walking through a wall of fire just to be able to set this up is pointless unless it had been cast by an enemy and you had to go through it to get to them anyway. It is going to be one of those rare if ever events that are the exception rather than the norm.
Something similar happened to my Ranger, i had the choice of shooting at half cover or walk through a natural bonefire to get a better angle. I chose the walk through fire, because the resistance lasts till your next turn and the bad guys were dealing fire damage.

It's actually not that unlikely.
If you're going to fight a powerful mage or a dragon, and that mage or dragon manages to roll higher on initiative than the Barbarian (or the Barbarian rolls higher but doesn't get close enough to attack, and therefore doesn't go into a rage), and uses Fireball or Lightning Breath on the party, the Barbarian would be in a situation where he could use the spell Absorb Elements (easily gained by a 1 level multiclass dip) as a reaction, and then on his following turn, he could go into a rage with a bonus action and get a damage boost from Absorb Elements when attacking with his action during a rage.
Just be aware that Bear Totem and Absorb Elements both grant resistance, so the damage reduction does not stack.
Except the Bear Totem resistance only applies when raging, so that's irrelevant. This question was specifically about casting Absorb Elements when not in a Rage.
Awesome I was planing on playing a fire Psycho that gets the Absorb Element among other things to get on fire and rage. He will scream : "IM A FIREBALL!" As he charges towards an enemy.

Move through a wall of fire on your turn, cast it as a reaction on your turn, bonus action rage and of you go:
Absorb Element and rage together untill the begining of your next turn.
Or just cast it as a result of being hit with an elemental attack, then rage at the start of the next round.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
That only works for the extra damage part of the spell.

But i agree, it is an uncommon event.
