You make yourself, including your clothing, armor, Weapons, and other belongings on your person, look different until the spell ends or until you use your action to dismiss it. You can seem 1 foot shorter or taller and can appear thin, fat, or in between. You can't change your body type, so you must adopt a form that has the same basic arrangement of limbs. Otherwise, the extent of the Illusion is up to you.
The changes wrought by this spell fail to hold up to physical inspection. For example, if you use this spell to add a hat to your outfit, Objects pass through the hat, and anyone who touches it would feel nothing or would feel your head and hair. If you use this spell to appear thinner than you are, the hand of someone who reaches out to touch you would bump into you while it was seemingly still in midair.
To discern that you are disguised, a creature can use its action to inspect your Appearance and must succeed on an Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC.
With the plasmoid being able to change their arrangement of limbs at will, I wonder if there are any shenanigans you can get into.

The Thri-keen are also interesting in this regard. Does Disguise Self just not work for them, since there are no other medium humanoids with 6 limbs? I suppose they could make themselves look like some sort of monster, but convincingly looking like another playable race doesnt seem possible.
Yeah, I mean unless you're in a Thri-Kreen community, your options would be 1.) "I'm not the thri-kreen you're looking for" 2.) "I'm some other sort of other medium insectoid, like a big but not giant ant" 3.) A one being performance of "three kobolds in a greatcoat."

Well, Aarakocra have six limbs. It's just that their wings aren't suited to manipulating objects.

I have a plasmoid character named Prowler, but if he wants to interact with normal humans, he uses a disguise to blend in. He creates this normal-looking human man named John, son of Joseph.

Take the Mask of Many Faces invocation as a Warlock or with the Eldritch Adept feat and you can basically play a mimic.
