Well, let's say we can do a little better than just Darkvision for Dragonborn
Here's my suggestions:
• Breath Weapon:
Uses Standard Action instead of Bonus action.
1d6 damage per +1 proficiency bonus
+1 dmg per proficiency bonus
• Breath Recharge:
Use a bonus action to roll a d6. on a 6 your breath weapon recharges
• Draconic Ancestry:
Gain damage resist. and breath weapon damage type and area shape.
adittionally:
Green ancestry: gain 30ft swim speed and waterbreathing
Blue ancestry: gain 20ft burrow speed
Red ancestry: gain +20ft jump lenght and 10ft high jump height
White ancestry: gain 20ft climb speed
Black ancestry: ignore difficult terrain
[EDIT]I fogot one last trait:
Breath of Magic
Dragonborns that can cast spells can use their breath weapon as a magic focus for their spells, being able to cast spells even if they have both hands occupied or tied up, when the somatic components can be executed with their mouth.
I think they are trying to simplify things. I also think the only reason they didn't take the fizban version for dragonborn is because it encourages people to play it as a martial because of the way the breath weapon works. To fix this my suggestion is a simple make the breath weapon use your action OR bonus action. Weaken it a tiny bit probably 1d6+ PB with cantrip scaling (2d6+pb at 5, 3d6+pb at 11, and 4d6+pb at 17). And allow the player to choose line or cone and he can change it at a long rest. Simple adjustment. Probably boring for some.
I realize a lot of people dislike the downgrade from Fizban's, but I kinda like it. Don't get me wrong, I would still offer the Fizban's option to my group, but consider that this isn't exactly a supplement they're coming out with, they're coming out with an updated version of the core books. For newer players, they might not have anything beyond the core books, and that is fine. D&D has a considerable amount of bookkeeping, especially for newer players (yeah, I know 3.5 was worse than 5e in that regard), so instead of overwhelming newer players with 3 flavors of Dragonborn, keep it simple, and then if someone is really interested in having more, have that as an option. That's also why I'm fine with them not having all of the Tieflings from Tome of Foes, as that overcomplicates things.
I don't really like Fizban because it nerfs the breath, which is the awesome part in dragonborns and gives some OP non-cool extra features, like "enervating breath" or being immune to an element (immune PC is like, so absurd).
I would like that the color of the dragonborn would steer the thematic mechanics. And I don't agree with the nerf dragonborn suffered in One D&D.... So... that's why I'm proposing this.

I would say to stick with fizban rules for dragonborn. This new version is a major downgrade along with dwarves.
I can't agree with that because tremor sense is a lot an of OP feature.
I see fizban's rules for breath attack as a buff as you can use it more than once per longer rest, and if you have extra attack you can replace one of your attacks with a breath attack. Not having to give up your entire action just to do one breath attack is much better that the original dragonborn. One D&D is basically the same but the made it to take up your entire action to use it just like the original dragonborn. So it does slightly less damage that the original DB, and it takes up your entire action.

I think Fizban hit the perfect place for Dragonborn, I would go with that as well.
But Just adding this part "When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with a breath attack in a 15-foot cone." Would be amazing already. So Extra Attackers can be happy.
Unless them plan to completely remove Extra Attack, or even change the Action economy.

I don't think they could do that last bit and still be backwards compatible at all.

Honestly I don't understand why would they try to keep nerfing dragonborn. It's not like anyone is making a "do 1000 damage per turn with this dragonborn build"....
Playing as a Dragonborn Paladin in a party that is of several different races. The race mechanics lacks a lot compared to the others. You gain a breath weapon that does minimal damage compared to your class skills with a melee weapon. A resistance to my chosen ancestry of cold. At the time I was the only one without Darkvision. No skill proficiencies from my race. No innate magics other then the breath weapon. Now this is just my option as I'm a huge fan of the Dragonborn race. I agree with Faust here that the Dragonborns deserve a bit more even if it's just something as small as skill proficiencies.
