Is there a mistake in the recently published Ranger expert class?
1ST LEVEL: FAVORED ENEMY You are adept at focusing your ire on a single foe. You always have the Hunter’s Mark Spell prepared, and it doesn’t count against the number of Spells you can prepare.
1ST LEVEL: SPELLCASTING eg. Spell Preparation. You have the following Spells prepared: Cure Wounds, Guidance, Hunter’s Mark, and Thorn Whip.
If one looks at the Ranger spell table they are meant to be able to prepare 2 cantrips and 2 1st level spells. (and this doesn't include Hunter's Mark) In the example they give the 1st level Ranger has prepared 2 cantrips and 2 1st level spells with Hunter's Mark being one of them.
I assume this is a mistake and their example Ranger can prepare one additional 1st level spell.
Yeah, seems like a mistake. But then that's part of why we have UA!

Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
I think the always prepared HM is from favored enemy which may have an alternate class feature. In any case, yeah you clearly should prepare something else.
That was the only 'error' I read in the Expert supplement. Glad you posted. I'm afraid it would get lost during the survey.
The only other thing I could knit-pick on the supplement is that I would rather have the Feats list by Level and the alphabetical within the level. It will make it easy to find the 1st level feats.
We noticed this day 1, later down the recommended spell appears to be "speak with animals", for 1st level, instead of hunter's mark. No idea why they still haven't fixed it.
