If there’s only going to be 4 subclasses per class, is bladesinger just not gonna happen? If they wanted to make a balanced spell sword for once I feel like now would be the time to do it. I also really liked blade singer so I’m sad 😢
The "4 subclasses per class" thing only applies to the PHB, so Bladesinger probably won't be in the 2024 PHB. That's not really much of a change, considering it wasn't in the 2014 PHB.
Anyways, with the level of backwards compatibility that they seem to be going for now, I actually wouldn't be surprised if the 2014 Bladesinger will be compatible with the 2024 class on launch. Even if it isn't, they seem to be making some sorely needed changes to Eldritch Knight, including basically porting over Bladesinger's unique Extra Attack, so it'll be a much more viable spell sword.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny. Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.

Everything that exists in dnd outside of the phb, is still going to be there. This is just an update or revision to the phb.
While I initially agreed with those saying yes the bladesinger will be there, i think it has some provisions. 1. We do not know what beyond will look like and what will be available there. 2. And perhaps more importantly/frequent issue. The DM may decide to only use the new PH. 3. We are only going with this based on their statements of wanting it to be 5e compatible. We don't know where the game will end up 12 months from now. the last playtest of next to 5e had some big changes.
I feel like an effective spell sword simply can't be a full caster, because then for the "sword" to get anywhere near the "spell" it's gotta be the best sword in the game. The melee options are either broken or pointless.

At low levels it seems to work like a spell sword but mid+ it just becomes a wizard with a ridiculously high AC who occasionally slaps people in fights that are a pushover to save some slots. End of the day if you want to be a spell sword I think it should be designed around a 1/2 caster chassis.

I hope so, but no. It just isn't in the PH.

If only. "I want to be the main character: the class" is a blight on this game.

I thought that was the Hexblade 1/College of Swords Bard?
