I was kind of bummed they changed the flexible casting stat cause it would allow for a lot more flexibility if another class
wanted a multiclass dip. sorc, bard and paladin can still sort of make this work . also thematically what if you warlock has terrible charisma but made a deal anyway with a patron?
Yeah, the latest version of the Warlock was a bit of a disappointment. I do like the Pacts being Eldritch Invocations now, but otherwise: big disappointment.
Bring back half caster with variable casting stat.

I would say the flexible casting stat being gone is a good thing to prevent the already often multiclassed class to be multiclassed even more.
Warlock should have had a choice of Intelligence or charisma, I did not get wisdom tho. Pact of the tome should be intelligence while the other three remain charisma. But this doesn't work if pacts are mere invocations.

For something like a GOO warlock, wisdom makes sense. It could be a connection through intuition and subconsciousness that couldn't be comprehended by logic or negotiated with charm.
I would have liked to see flexible casting abilities for some of the other classes too, particularly the Cleric. Intelligence-based Knowledge domain? A Charismatic preacher? Both seem very appropriate.
I could see Wisdom-based Warlocks working (narratively) for, e.g., some Celestial or Fathomless patrons.
I would prefer restricting multiclassing by putting a “Warlock level 2” prerequisite on the Pact invocations. Still feasible, but taking a bit more investment for the character.
Look, I'm not entirely against intelligence as there's way too many goddamned charisma builds as is, and intelligence is kind of skipped.
Giving it to wisdom doesn't really even out the caster stats, and I worry about unlocking new multiclass BS.
Having it "optional" amongst the three is absolutely a no.
1. If the warlock isn't already abused enough by multiclassing, giving it 3 spellcasting options is going to be opening the floodgates to caster multiclasses as you can use the same casting stat for both types of magic and you remove the barrier or having a hard lock on needing a decent secondary stat for half the casters (cleric, wizard, druid, ranger?) as well as all caster subclasses.
2. If you do remove the secondary stat for casting, I fear the next thing requested will be to remove the class barrier to entry of having at least a 13 in cha, and then things become truly a madhouse. And I feel like removing spellcasting requirements is a trojan horse to get a precedent in that can be argued to remove that requirement.

Hard agree on #1 there, it makes me sad to see so many people dip 2 levels in a heavily story-based class, especially after Hexblade came out. It's still going to be an issue, especially now with Pact Of The Blade available at level 1(I will refrain from getting back on my soapbox about how putting Pact Boons at Level 1 and Patron choice at Level 3 is a stupid idea), so I have no desire in making it even easier.
I think any of the three mental stats are justifiable for Warlock, but if I had to choose two they would be Int and Cha for sure. In fact, Crawford said on Twitter (I refuse to call it "X") years ago that 2014 Warlock almost got the ability to choose Int or Cha. That is going in my survey for sure.

I mean at that point, just make EB + AB a cantrip on every spellcaster's list to be honest, and just delete all the other attack cantrips as they are superfluous. All casters will simply spam EB + AB all day long, and martial characters will be obsolete.

Warlock should be intelligence based.
