Polearm Master grants a Bonus Action attack for using the butt-end of the pole.
What if this was granted to "Melee weapons with the Two-Handed and/or Versatile property" as a Weapon Mastery, instead of being part of a Feat? The idea being that it could be a butt-end strike OR a pommel strike. All of the weapons that have those two properties can easily be seen as having one of those two options: butt-strike from any hafted weapon, or pommel strike from a Greatsword or Longsword.
The only thing that leaves out is striking someone with the stock/rifle-butt. That could be handled by making that the built-in (in the table) Mastery for the Heavy Crossbow and Musket. So those two get it automatically, but other weapons have to meet the prerequisite to use it as a secondary mastery.
Something like:
Smash Prerequisite: Melee weapon with the Two-Handed or Versatile Property When you use a weapon with this mastery, you may use a Bonus Action to make a melee attack with its opposite end, such as a pommel strike, strike with the end of the haft, or strike with the stock. This is effectively a weapon that does 1d4 bludgeoning damage without any special properties. The Greataxe, Glaive, Halberd, Pike, Spear, and Trident can be customized to have a spike at that end, making the damage type be piercing instead of bludgeoning (cost: X).
This also means that between this Weapon Mastery and the Batttle Master "brace" maneuver, you've kind of made Polearm Master obsolete. Battle Masters can easily pick this up, and make it part of the Hoplite build in Tasha's Cauldron. Other characters with Weapon Masteries can use a (hopefully carried forward) Martial Initiate feat to pick up Brace. Those characters who don't have Weapon Mastery would basically need two feats: Weapon Mastery and Martial Initiate. It seems fair to me make non-professionals have to do that.
