Hey all! So I am pretty stoked about the revised Artificer class published recently in the 2019 D&D Unearthed Arcana. So, of course I needed to build a character that I would never get to play, lol. I ended up creating a Vedalken Alchemist with an Izzet League background. While he lived on Ravnica his entire life a laboratory mishap has a Rakdos demon hunting him down. My character's mentor helps him escape and he finds himself in the Forgotten Realms.
Anyways, I wanted to share my character creation so here it is! In the video, I level up my Alchemist from level 1 to 6 and discuss the Artificer abilities, Alchemist abilities, and some of the options I chose.
I was a little iffy on this class when I first read it, but as I began putting the pieces together and creating the character I realized how much the Artificer leaves to the imagination. I really dig it and looks super fun to play!

Yeah, the Artificer really lets you built up the character's presentation however you want, much more than any other class so far in my opinion.
Alchemist and Technomancer are but the simple ones.. imagine:
1) a clown who uses a buzzer to use shocking grasp by shaking hands or slapping people, throw a pie at someone's face to heal them with cure wounds, use a water pistol to shoot out Poison Spray and rubs the thick makeup on its face to activate AlterSelf. (Various)
2) a Puppeteer who takes out a small wooden puppet to activate its spells, even carrying various for multiple purposes. (imagine the spider example expanded) (carpentry or tinker)
3) an omnyodo who uses handwritten seals and talismans in ritual-like fashion (admittedly this one can be fluffed with a wizard if one pushes a little, but it doesn't feel the same). (Calligraphy or Engraving)
4) a painter who brings his paintings (spells) to life!
5) a tailor who actually weaves his spells into existance with magic threads!
6) if you are a Warforged, I bet you can talk to your dm into allowing you to attach the artifacts directly into your body such as turning your hand into a cannon to launch a Firebolt.
Honestly, so long as the limitation of spells per day is kept it should be fine!

I'm brand new to d&d, but do you guys think it's possible to make an alchemist archer? I'd love to have a character that shoots arrows with glass bottles filled with potions on the end instead of arrowheads.
I'd go Battle Smith personally. Start with a short bow, then upgrade to longbow at 3rd when you get access to all Martial Weapons.
Take Alchemy Supplies as you extra Tools with the Artificer at 1st level. Then I'd take a background that provides Wood carving Tools to actually make bows if that is what you want

Watch your back, conserve your ammo, and NEVER cut a deal with a dragon!
I am in the process of creating a multiclass Barbarian with Artificer, (I rolled good stats lol) more for fun than actual min/maxing lvl 1 barb who is practically carrying the party because at this level and maxed strength I am hitting way above my level. I can't decide whether I want to go Battlesmith for the Steel Protector and flavour it as an Ape (see latest session thread for more details!) or go Artillerist and have a predator style shoulder cannon?
I only started reading up on Artificer yesterday and I love it, will be taking it instead of lvl 2 Barbarian lol

That clown sounds like the most ridiculous and frightening thing a person could see on the battlefield.
Merc: "Uh, captain. I see a... a clown."
Literally everyone: "KILL IT."
"The Epic Level Handbook wasn't that bad, guys.
Guys, pls."
Me /* auto fails Wisdom save */ Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh!! Ruuuuuuuuunnnnnn!!!!
