When the UA content is archived and you can't start a new one using the character builder, can someone explain what happens to ones you previously made? If I had a wildfire druid at level 3, would I be able to raise levels and still add the higher abilities? Or are my abilities as a wildfire druid stuck at 3rd level?
Should I just make one to 20th level as a template, and make a copy at the lower levels when i level up normally?
If you have a subscription so you can make more then 6 characters it is possible to park a subclass at whatever level the class has it’s subclasses. If the archived subclass is then copied into a new character you can use all the features of that subclass as it levels.
This is my understanding. So if you have Rune Knight for example and that subclass becomes achieved. If you have a Rune Knight of any race parked at level 3, you can start your Goliath fighter 1-2. Then when you want to choose RK you copy your parked gnome rune knight and change to race and stats that match your Goliath.
So the best solution is to copy the original, then edit rather than editing the original.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
It's not supposed to unless you level up but either from some kind of glitch or dnd beyond deciding I don't get my UA warlock class (The Undead), when I got randomly logged out (browser messed up and logged me out of everything) it changed my subclass from The Undead UA I had kept on my warlock to The Great Old One. So annoyed I lost that UA because I hadn't saved a copy of my sheet and the copy I had of the UA, which got destroyed in a hard drive break.

You can level up/down with archived content, as long as you don't change it. Or else it goes away.
