I’ve read a number of discussions about what Merlin might look like in 5e. Most envision him as a wizard or a wizard/Druid multicass. Of course, I want to make home a pure warlock! So how to?
Since he said to be a Cambion, let’s start with a Tiefling. Maybe tomelock? What would you choose for a patron?
Merlin was a real human... probably. Tolstoy's son wrote a book about him.

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."

actually, him gaining his powers from his bloodline indicates him being a sorcerer. Maybe shadow magic?
There are many version of Merlin in literature and folklore. Maerlyn from the Dark Towner series is a spawn of the Prim that relishes chaos, creating havoc for his own amusement. A merlin warlock in this vein might be a GOOlock that was granted powers by the power of the primordial chaos. itself.

Hmm why Shadow sorcerer? I was thinking Divine Soul sorcerer reskinned to represent his fiendish lineage. I digress...
As a warlock, the Archfey seems appropriate but I am at a loss to come up with a patron. Maybe the Fates themselves?
