If I make a Half-Elf Level 3 Fighter/17 Warlock (I don't think subclasses matter much)
Level 17 Warlock - Eldritch blast count 4
and I find a DM willing to give me or let me get made Illusionists bracers
"While wearing the bracers, whenever you cast a cantrip, you can use a bonus action on the same turn to cast that cantrip a second time."
Eldritch Blast count 8
And then, Action Surge:
"On your turn, you can take one additional action."
Cast again, Eldritch Blast count: 12
Which to me seems crazy!
Assuming you max Charisma, that means that you deal (Assuming all hit) 12x(1d10+5) or from 72-180 damage in a turn, limited to 1 time per short rest, and 8x(1d10+5) or 48-120 damage every other turn.
Am I misunderstanding something? (I can now see why so many DMs don't allow the Illusionists bracers. lol)
Yes its possible but is 4 more eldritch blasts really how you want to use your action surge, and besides that's a pretty high level thing is 12 eldritch blasts a short rest really that impressive at 20? And yeah there is a reason illusionist bracers aren't allowed by most DMs.
You do not actually need the bracers. Any character with at least 2 levels of Fighter, a level of warlock and 3 levels of sorcerer with quickened spell can do it. With a second level of warlock for agonizing blast it becomes a decent, but not broken use of action Surge. 2 actions for 8 Eldritch blasts is pretty much the same as the 8 weapon attacks of a single class Fighter.
