Hexblade has got to be my favorite Patron choice for Warlock (especially with Pact of the Blade), HOWEVER, I need your guys' opinions, because I'm trying to design a warlock that will annihilate a battlefield and totally mess with peoples' minds. What is the best Warlock subclass in your opinion, and why? Let me know down below!
Depends. If you are staying warlock I suspect genie is the best. None of its abilities change the battle really but they are all really useful. Its spell list is solid, level 1 genie vessel its very useful and helps you pull off tricks and grab a extra short rest, level 6 a resistance and a bonus action, no concentration, hovering flight, 10 can bring the party into the vessel, 14 limited wish is amazing. .
Other great options if staying lock Fathomless.
Decent spells Level 1. The bonus damage isn't much but it also slows by 10, combines with a couple invocations on your eldritch blast you have a very high level of control. And hey water breathing is something. Level 6 resist cold. And understand anyone under water, not great but you can make it useful. 10 a great free spell evards with 1 free casting on a class with very limited castings that's dope, level 14 a decent teleport.
The undead. Solid for a dip or sticking with it. Okay spells level 1. Form of dread is awesome, fear effects really help with control especially if you shove them with eldritch blasts, and hey temp HP, immune to fear in the form as well. Level 6, form of dread boost/necrotic damage swap. An extra d10 once a round is okay, not amazing but its something. Level 10 necrotic husk isn't amazing, but its useful and fun. Level 14 spirit projection is great, not limited wish great but great. You are a spell casting ghost than can teleport your body to your ghost location.
I had great fun with Fiend / Pack of the Blade (Fighter 1/Warlock X). I would cast both Shadow of Moil and Fire Shield, run in with my Greatsword and Full-plate and watch as enemies kill themselves or get a greatsword to the face.
I'd think it would be highly dependent on the playstyle you enjoy & the nature of the campaign & party composition. Also how well it fits the RP flavor of the character you want to play, if that's a thing for the player & game the character is in.
I've only got 5 encounters of experience w/ a GOO warlock in 5e so not much practical experience comparing the mechanical difference between builds so far. Having strong mechanics is fun in & of itself, but assuming they're not entirely ******, I've usually had more fun w/ the characters I've played w/ the strongest/most cohesive/ most interesting RP concept for me than the best min/max in previous versions & systems.

Fiend is very solid, it doesn't have a bad ability.
I like archfey because of the fey themes, play what you like, if you have access to the metamagic adept feat or multiclass to sorcerer as an archfey you can quicken fairy fire and then blast away giving yourself and your allies advantage on attacks. just my thoughts on warlock
Undead Warlock with Pact of the Chain and a Quasit or Sprite is the best for what you are looking for in my opinion.
Undead Warlock Form of Dread is awesome. Combine this with either Eldritch Blast or with booming blade and the mobile feat and you have a ton of control with it before you even dip into spells. Add the Quasit for scare and occasional poison damage or the sprite for regular ranged poison damage and occasional unconscious.
The frightened condition is probably the best condition short of incapacitated for battlefield control and you can do it to someone every turn you hit. Enemies can not move closer to you while frightened. You can do it from Range with EB getting multiple chances to hit. You keeping enemies back while your sprite mows them down with poison arrows.
IMO an Undead Warlock can keep up with a Hexblade in melee, because of the temp hit points and fear effect you get with Form of Dread. He is slightly behind in damage because he is MAD, but he is way ahead in control.
