I've been considering making a Lore bard with a cleric and warlock dip and adding the "Gunner" feat at level 1. Emphasis on battlefield mobility and CC. Am I missing anything glaringly obvious, because this sure seems like a great way to get 4 "attacks" per round without having to be a fighter.
As an aside, is there anything other than hex/hexblade's curse I could use to increase EB's damage/utility. (will already have AB and either Hadar or Repelling)
If you don't go Hexblade then once per turn you can add your prof bonus to the damage of one beam via genie's wrath. Genie’s Wrath. Once during each of your turns when you hit with an attack roll, you can deal extra damage to the target equal to your proficiency bonus. The type of this damage is determined by your patron: bludgeoning (dao), thunder (djinni), fire (efreeti), or cold (marid).
One level of Ranger could get you favored foe, but that eats concentration and is only a d4.
Long term if you are very sure you will be up in the front then Spirit Shroud is a great way to add more damage, but you need to be within 10ft. As a 4th level spell, Shadow of Moil will increase damage nicely by giving you advantage. Compared to hex, moil is probably the better route.
Finally, since you mentioned cleric. If you have a round to prep (because this will eat your action), bless is better than hex. You can do the math yourself, but bless gets you nearly the same DPR as hex by increasing to hit, AND it also increases the DPR of the other people you bless by increasing to hit, AND it improves saving throws. Its going to vary from character to character but generally bless gives more damage at higher AC's and slightly less at lower, but the difference can be in the less than 2 dpr for most scenarios. But you put that on yourself and add in a bless on the monk and GWM fighter and the party DPR is WAY up. I have also seen that bless be huge on saving throws in an encounter where the enemies burn their actions to charm/fear/etc and thus do no damage.
Not entirely sure what you mean by melee EB, just remember that EB is a ranged spell attack so you will have disadvantage on attack rolls if you are in melee.

The OP specifically said they will be taking the Gunner feat to remove the disadvantage.
Back to the topic at hand. If you already have better spells to concentrate on eg. Bless from Cleric tip, then Undead Warlock might be worth a look at. Form of Dread is a great ability that scales with proficiency bonus not class level that gives you a little temp hp and the ability to frightened something every turn while also making yourself immune to frightened.
