as discussed in this newest UA video, in the forthcoming playtest rules glossary, any of your spells with the ritual tag can be cast as a ritual, for anyone.
i assume this is only planned so far to be tested out and then probably changed back as the playtest continues, so this isn't a jump-to-conclusions post.
just curious:
if that change happens, if everyone can ritual cast in onednd, do you immediately feel like that hurts or helps tomelocks in any way?
i felt a twinge of "waitasecond" when JC first brought it up, but i don't think it evolved into a full "oh no" from me.
all else being the same, 'Book of Ancient Secrets" would still let you acquire non-warlock spells. and you could still (depending on dm) put your own pact spells into the book, then switch them off your pact list. but it was a cool boon after not being a ritual caster, to finally get to cast rituals...
idk, what do you all think? if you're a tomelock who keeps the same pc into onednd, would you want an additional benefit from BoAS? any reactions at all? just curious.
It really depends on what they do with the spell lists, spells known vs. prepared, short rest refresh, etc. If they kept the spell lists like they are now then the Warlock has 4 rituals total and Ancient Secrets would be well worth it. If they give them the Arcane list then they have plenty and its probably not worth it, and since its the primary invocation for tome it really weakens that pact.
Warlock in general is going to be a big wait and see moment. It is weird the way it is constructed right now, and it would not take much to completely ruin it. Warlock fans could end up like psionics/ranger fans endlessly bickering with each other over what way the class works best.
