I'm writing a sailor background character who is saved from a shipwreck and a storm and is gifted a waterlogged tome by a Sea God named Father Dagon. Dagon who seeks to supplant Umberlee and become a new sea god. PC becomes a "Tempest Cleric" worshipping Dagon and trying to convert others. PLOT TWIST Dagon is super evil, and has tricked the pc into becoming a pact of the tome fathomless warlock. He has low INT but a lot of CHA. His party definitely has suspicions, but he's oblivious. Eventually he'll learn the truth and probably become a real Tempest Cleric.
So, how can I re-skin some of the core fathomless spells to mirror tempest cleric ones? Just enough so that the PC can really believe he's a cleric. I was thinking eldritch blast can look like lightning, etc. The tentacle spells could still look the same, as he knows Dagon is a sea god. Looking for ideas.
I think fathomless is set up well to be a surrogate already. You have Thunderwave on the Fathomless block. The other one my cleric used was Fog Cloud, so replace create food and water with fog cloud.
Make Hellish Rebuke do lighting damage to mimic that 1st level tempest feature.
Add Call Lightning to the 3rd level spells and destructive wave to the 5th level spells.
I'm currently doing something similar with a warlock/paladin build
I took my first level in paladin to pass as one without feats
and waited for a dramatic moment outside of town to first unleash my tentacles
when questioned about it I just feign ignorance. I'm just a small-town fisherman I dunno how gods and magic work
I met an ocean god and was granted ocean powers; it makes sense to my character, and I don't know why everyone is so suspicious/creeped out by tentacles anyway

That should just about do it.
