I've been searching and can't find any answer. I can't figure out the spell slots for Warlocks on the character sheet. Level 1 character should have 1 spell slot and 2 spells, however under the "spells" section it shows both spells with the red "cast" button. If I click that, suddenly both spells "cast" buttons turn grey and the "Pact" button turns red. I can't figure out what is happening (or supposed to happen). Also, when I click on an individual spell, when the "cast" button is red for both spells, both spell descriptions show a red "pact slot" with a red 1 above it. Or if the "pact" button is red (and the spell "cast" button is grey), the "pact slot" button is grey with a 0 above it.
I guess the long and the short of it is, what does all this mean, and how do I assign one spell to the one existing spell slot? There is probably an obvious answer that I'm not seeing, so I appreciate any help.
I previously dealt with a warrior, and didn't have to play around with spells.
Grey means you have used up your pact/spell slot capability. You must now take short or long rest to re-enable your pact slots. The red 1 indicates the level of the slot.

Ok, I guess I have three basic questions: Why are both spells red/active when there is only supposed to be one spell slot? Where is the actual physical location of the visual representation of the available spell slot(s) on the sheet? How do I assign one spell to the one existing spell slot? Thanks for the help, for some reason I'm not getting how this works in this situation.
So the one empty box next to "Pact" refers to having one spell slot. Once you cast a spell, that box is now full, hence no more spells to cast.
So that leads to my other question - if I have 12 spell slots and 40 spells, I have to just write down the 12 spells that I have chambered? That's not something the DNDBeyond character sheet can track? Seems a little odd that something that seems like an easy add wouldn't be a part of the online character sheet.

Casters have three sets of spells: their entire spell list, the spells they know, and the spells they currently have prepared.
In many classes, there's overlap. For Warlocks, the spells they know and the spells they have prepared are the same -- they can't swap spells out to handle the challenges they expect for the day.
So your warlock will grow their list of spells known as they level, and they can cast any of those with their spell slots. The character sheet handles all that just fine. (As it does clerics and wizards, who each have their own spell-management thing going on.
Got it, I didn't even think of that - Warlocks don't have to prep spells. So basically at level one they just happen to have the ability to cast one spell, and it can by any they know, whereas a wizard would have to prep a specific spell. That fixes my confusion over the online character sheet. That was super helpful.

Spell slots are the resource you use to fuel your spells.
You know two spells. You could cast either, so they both have the cast button enabled.
You have an unused spell slot. It's tracked with the empty checkbox above your spell list.
Now, you cast one of your spells. The checkbox is now filled. Since you have no slots left, both your cast buttons are greyed out.
So the one empty box next to "Pact" refers to having one spell slot. Once you cast a spell, that box is now full, hence no more spells to cast.
