Ive used warlocks for 5 years and I always love the pact weapons but the weapons I choose are often just thematic or just for coolness but the DM in my group has increased the difficulty so I'm asking what is the best weapon for warlocks.
I'm partial to Topple myself, especially if you've got another decent frontliner or two. Unlike Cleave (which is a solid pick), you can use it on every hit. If you topple your opponent, you get advantage on any follow-up attacks, and they have to spend half their speed to stand up, which makes it incredible for keeping enemies away from your backliners. Added bonus, if you get initiative right, your other frontliners get to help you kick your opponent when they're down.
Downside is some monsters have immunity to Prone, but it's a small price to pay.

You forgot that you hand ranged players disadvantage for doing that. Screwing your teammates is not a small price to pay.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
Because I always multiclass into a fighter or a paladin and take war caster, I prefer the rapier both for vex and to work with a shield. I go ahead and start with the longsword you get from the default Paladin inventory though since it can function with or without a shield to varying degrees.
I’ve always thought about switching to a maul, but I feel like I then wouldn't be utilizing War Caster to the fullest and would want to switch it. I’m not sure to what though. Actor requires Mask of Many Faces, which I lack room for on my hybrid build. Inspiring Leader matches an ability I get from the Celestial Patron too closely. My bonus actions are too full to use telekinetic. I’m not familiar with the new ones enough to decide either.
Anyway, for those reasons, I go with a Rapier build. It’s worth noting that I presume everyone here is using a Pact of the Blade build. You didn’t specify in your original comment if this was for that or not, so I thought I would specify that is the build. Here’s a copy of my Paladin/Warlock build if you are interested in how my hybrid warcaster sword and board Pact of the Blade works:
I think I should point out that warlocks don't get weapon mastery or fighting styles. If you're multiclassing, sure, but straight warlock has to work without them. (Or take the feat that gives you a mastery.)
Assuming straight warlock, if you're going for maximizing your melee damage, you're probably looking at great weapons with the Great Weapon Master feat, or polearms with Polearm Mastery. The other melee damage builds rely on masteries and fighting styles, particularly light weapons.
(There's also skipping multiple attacks, and using shadow blade with true strike and Agonizing Blast, but some GMs won't allow it, and I don't actually know how the damage numbers compare. There's also just straight shadow blade, if you're using Xanathar's spells, which still gets you the light-weapon bonus attack, even without the supporting infrastructure.)

Maul, Greatsword and Greataxe deal highest damage for Martial melee weapon.
Weapon Mastery wise, i prefer one that Cleave if i can get it.

Cool thanks!
Also does anyone have a ranged pact weapon builds?
