My Archfey Chainlock uses a sprite familiar, because theme. One cool little thing that popped up in a session was asking Winterbreeze to kick the INT 7 fighter in the back of the head whenever she did something particularly dumb/obnoxious. Not hard enough to deal damage (or break invisibility), but it got increasingly hilarious as the fighter would comically overreact harder and harder every time it happened. Just a little *doink!*, followed by "WHAT WAS THAT WHO'S THERE I"LL MURDER YA I'LL SWALLOW YA SOUL WHAT THE HELL KEEPS THUNKIN' ME NOGGIN?!"

That sounds like a fun RP use of a familiar. I know one fellow player who I would love to do that to.
Heh. I love Pact of the Chain. Winterbreeze is not simply a scout or combat advantage bot; he's a core part of Memory's character. Winterbreeze helps me keep watch at night, which is technically 'Help Action' but I consider it cool nonetheless. The familiar is actually smarter than the warlock; Winterbreeze helps whenever Memory has to do book research or other more intellectual pursuits.
Outside of noncombat uses for the Help action, Voice of the Chain Master plus proficiency in either Deception or Performance (depending on which way the DM leans) means you can haunt a house like nobody's business. I haven't gotten to do it yet, but one of the ways Memory has on tap for either making a buck or dealing with entrenched foes is sending Winterbreeze into a house, then making a production of terrifying the inhabitants with ghastly moans and chittering in either Infernal or Sylvan depending on who can speak what in said building. If she's making a buck, she'll then offer to 'cleanse' the house with a sacred ritual. If she's scaring enemies, she just ramps up the intimidation until they break. Especially useful is that the sprite only loses its invisibility if it attacks or casts a spell - knocking things over and Poultergeisting the place a little bit is neither of those things.
Pact of the Chain GOOLock- Granted this is higher level play- since you can channel your touch spells and abilities through your Familiar- send Sprite into various places and use Create Thrall on someone helpful :)
"Why yes high level merchant, I would LOVE a 50% discount on that +3 Rod of the Pact Keeper"
"What? I have Diplomatic Immunity because the Governor of this province loves me?? I had no idea :)"

I think my DM would only let me get away with doing something like that once. :)
I saw somewhere someone had the idea of going Raven Queen patron, and pact of the chain with a pair of ravens. With all the invocations stacked on they can cast touch spells, you can see through their eyes as long as they are on the same plane I think etc. Great for scouting and general spy shenanigans.

After four sessions, I'm crossing my fingers that we'll finally level up tonight...
Other than scouting ahead and the help action, what creative ways have you used your familiar?
