k so this is my first time playing a warlock (hexblade) im usually wizards, im a magic player (boring being anything else besides magic makes me feel helpless) ive never played warlocks and was wondering if anyone has tips for me (i already made the character) just tips for play.
Hexblade is a patron, not a pact. Pacts are Blade or Tome or Chain. You don't select a pact until level three.
What role do you want to develop the character for? I usually play Hexblade patron with the Tome pact for the versatility, but perhaps you have another vision.
Since anything besides magic makes you feel helpless, I expect you'll want Tome or possibly Chain, but not Blade.
The important thing to remember is that you don't have a lot of spell slots; spells will be saved for dire or unusual circumstances and cantrips will be your regular go-to. Take EB, and when you get level two take the AB invocation. Everything else is variable, depending on your play style. You get proficiency with medium armor and shield - use it.
You have the choice between Pact of the Blade, to be even more Gish/Sith lord.
Pact of the chain to have and command a small familiar
Pact of the Tome, wich gives you a dapper Spellbook, and turns you into a Nerdy Warlock.
If your group uses Unearthed Arcana, there's also the Pact of the talisman, that lets you create a talisman to get bonuses from and you can also hand it to others.

What level? What pact? These answers will greatly influence our advice.

The important question is, "Are you a Tiefling?"
If yes, you get extra marks for coolness.
I honestly cannot fanthom why anyone would play a Warlock that is NOT a Tiefling to be honest...
