Hey all! I looked back through the threads to march and didn't see any mention of this. If I am in the wrong spot I apologize! And this might just be an avrae thing....
My Sorcerer multi-classed into Hexblade Warlock and uses a staff of defense as his pact weapon. I couldn't see how to make the staff of defense his pact weapon on DNDb, even though when I looked over hexblade it didn't say anything about it being only non-magical weapons. So instead I added a normal quarterstaff to my inventory and made it my pact weapon, but that doesn't signal that it is magical to avrae because it's still resisting the damage as if it was non-magical.
You could just add a magic +1 quarterstaff to your inventory, instead, and make that your Pact weapon. Presuming you have the Improved Pact Weapon invocation, which adds +1 to it, it only does so for summoned or non-magical pact weapons. So, your bonuses should stay the same, while the weapon still shows up as magical.
If you don't have Improved Pact Weapon, you could create a custom magic item. Use the Quarterstaff, +1 as a template, then lower the bonus to zero. Add that, make it your Pact weapon, and that should also work.
I'm guessing the reason you can't make it your Pact Weapon on your sheet is that your sheet doesn't think it can be used as a weapon. Some magic staves explicitly say in their description that they can be wielded as a weapon, the Staff Of Defense does not. Assuming your DM is letting you wield it as one then what others have suggested is probably easiest, creating a custom +0 magic quarterstaff and adding it to your inventory.

Not sure what "avrae" is, but this might help...
