I have this idea for an Aasimar warlock/rogue character I'd like some help on. I don't know if he should be more of a rogue with some levels of warlock, or more warlock with some levels of rogue, but I know that I want him to be more of a calculating behind the shadows plotting mastermind type. Think sociopath not psychopath who values control more than gold. He just always wants to be in control. If he moves to a city he immediately has the endgame to run it in mind. Power is just a tool for control. That said I also want him to be the slick, charismatic type. He prefers making you think his idea was actually your idea, that he's your best friend in the world, that it's safer to make allies than foes on his way to the top. But he'll still gut you in a heartbeat if you stand in his way.
So what kind of rogue/warlock build works for someone like that? And thanks for any help!
My first thought for a charismatic character would be swashbuckler rogue. CHA gets added to initiative and they seem like they would be the brazen cocky type that thinks they should be in charge.
I know most might say go for Hexblade, but I am always drawn to Great Old One. Telepathic communication and the Entropic Ward is another way you can possibly get advantage for your sneak attack.
Any particular reason why you want him to be a rogue as well? All you mentioned is perfectly doable as a pure warlock as well.
Also the other way around works too. All you mentioned is perfectly doable as a pure rogue as well.
Mostly because of stealth + charisma + familiar. Stealthy like a rogue, with some magic and a familiar, and getting away with having charisma being my strongest stat.
