Just need some clarification to make sureI am not missing something.
1. IPW grants a +1 bonus to summoned weapons. If I make a magic weapon with no bonuses or say a vicious weapon my pact weapon, it acts as a spell focus but doesn't get the +1 since it was not summoned. Correct? I see a lot of contradicting opinions on forums. Or am I missing something.
2. If I have the war caster feat do I still need IPW for a focus or can I get something else like say a gem on a ring or necklace as a focus? If I don't need the +1 is it better to drop IPW to free up an invocation.
(1) When you make a Magic Weapon your Pact weapon, you essentially add it to your Summonable arsenal. So a +0 Magical sword would act like a +1 Magical Sword when transformed into a pact weapon. (A Vicious weapon is a good candidate)
(2) A spellcasting focus replaces material components with no gold cost, but the War Caster feat allows you to perform somatic components.
An alternative to IPW as a spellcasting focus would be the Ruby of the War Mage, but as it consumes an attunement slot, you may not want it at higher levels.
Edit: Missed the second part of (2)
There is no point taking an invocation that you don't have a good use for, and you can always pick it up again the next time you level, so go ahead and pick whatever resonates with you, and give it a whirl.

As always thanks for the shared wisdom.
