So we start Curse of Strahd after Christmas. I'm planning on playing a Half-Elf Archfey Tomelock and mostly spamming EB. We rolled for stats today and boy, did I roll awful.
11/ 11/ 4/ 12/ 12/ 16
Right now, I have it allocated like this, accounting for racial bonuses, and we were allowed to redistribute them like Tasha's explains.
4 STR/ 12 WIS/ 12 INT/ 12 CON/ 12 DEX/ 18 CHA
Party is a barbarian, ranged artificer, bladesinger, and paladin, then my warlock. Like I said, I plan on spamming EB for combat and then taking my other cantrips and spells as utility stuff. Somewhat undecided on invocations and everything like that.
Any tips, opinions, or ideas on how to help this build? Is this build just a bad idea? Should I distribute the racial bonuses differently? And where should I be putting ASI/Feats? Feel free to ask for more info.
If you are certain you want to play a warlock I think it's sensible to go tomelock as you can be as much of a caster as a warlock is able to.. so you can sort hang back
Another idea could be a tortle bladelock.. youll have a decent armor without needing a good Dex leaving you with only needing Cha and con..
So 12 in con and wisdom and 16 in cha. Put 2 racial in cha and 1 in con.. then grab a half feat to get 14 con at some point
I'm not married to playing a warlock, it's just what I had been planning to do and these rolls kinda threw me for a loop. Especially in CoS where being squishy is even worse.
If you're building a combat themed Warlock, I would highly suggest taking Mind Sliver or Toll The Dead as other cantrips. Yes, EB Is broken so defiantly take that if you want to do combat. Hex is always a great option. As for invocations if you're worried about being squishy try False Life or Armor of Shadows. If you want to pick another subclass that's abit tankier try Hexblade warlock for the medium armor proficiency. Or maybe the Undying warlock found in the SCAG. Usually i don't recommend playing an Undying warlock but it's particular Niche is great for CoS, and picking up false life as a spell is super helpful. Hope this helped!
