I'm currently playing a scribes wizard, in the last game, my party was given a book. My scribes wizard used his magical quill to blackout a important book that was stolen to guarantee his survival back to town. (John Silver from black sails style) the feature doesn't say anything that I can see that dying makes the ink go away, or that it can be dispelled, and that it can only be done by having my quill erase the ink. Would killing my wizard or dispelling the book make the ink go away???
Only the quill itself is magical, and only it disappears if you die; while it produces its own ink, nothing in the description says that the ink itself is magical, so for all intents and purposes it's just ordinary ink.
Also, what do you mean by "dispelling the book"? Neither the quill nor your awakened spellbook is a spell, so they can't be dispelled using dispel magic; they would however stop functioning inside an antimagic field but then so do basically all wizard abilities. Your DM could have NPCs dismiss magic effects in other ways, but that'd be a homebrew/narrative behaviour so it'd be up to them.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
Awesome that's what I was thinking. It wouldn't make sense that the ink would be magical because then a dispel magic would destroy their spell book. Perfect now I have all the leverage lol.
