This may have been discussed previously, but I had a thought while I was watching Dungeon Dudes. If, for arguments sake, my BBEG casts a spell and a player uses Counterspell as a reaction, can a minion of of the BBEG also counter that Counterspell as a reaction?
While Nachti's answer is entirely correct, to give a slightly more complete answer; since counterspell is a reaction to someone you see casting a spell, it is itself eligible for reactions if someone else sees you cast it (or is a Mage Slayer etc.). The only limitation is the number of creatures that can counterspell, and whether they a) can still take a reaction and b) can see someone casting the spell in range.
In a big mage battle it can result in some pretty fun webs of counterspelling; if you're a DM then you absolutely need to try and describe what's happening with so many mages trying to control this increasingly chaotic magic. If you want a deterrent or some kind of consequence for a lot of counterspelling, then if there are 3+ counterspells in a turn you could have everyone roll concentration saving throws (if they're concentrating on something); the DM can explicitly call for concentration saving throws for any "environmental" factors they wish, and IMO a lot of anti-magic being hurled about should absolutely count as a poor environment for concentration. 😉

You are also able to use your reaction on your own turn, so you could cast a spell, and when an opponent counterspells it, you can then counterspell that counterspell.
For flavor you might consider it your spellcaster putting an extra spell-slot's worth of oomph into the spell cast to punch through the enemy's attempt to counterspell it.

Yes
My thanks. Your response contains volumes of wisdom.

Counter spell is so fun and great! It’s really useful.
