I'm about to start a new campaign in the above setting and have a level 1 wizard ready to go. I'm just stuck on my last spell choice, Identify. I'm stacking up on ritual spells to be a control/support wizard, but I'm not sure if this will be too useful. Is it worth it or depends too much on how the DM shares information? Otherwise I might go with disguise self instead.
Identify is kind of useless, imo. You can also identify an item by studying it during a short rest. So, really, all it save you is a little time that was probably just going to be hand waved away anyway.

Is this a 2024 rule? Because in 2014 you can not identify something by studying it over a short rest.

Yes, you can. It's a rule in both 2014 and 2024.
In the 2014 rules, this appears in the Dungeon Master's Guide, so maybe it's not as well known? You can see the specifics here.
The 2024 version, which is essentially the same but worded a little differently, was moved to the Player's Handbookhere.

Hello,
