Starting COS at level 4 Have an asimar Illusionist Wizard (not multiclassing) 305 starting gold
Current things set: Arcana Religion Proficiencies Scholar - Arcana Expertise lvl 4 I took Resilient CON
I took the inquisitive background for insight, investigation, thieves tool and the alert feat, thinking this makes sense to buff me as the only INT character in the party and should help me get a control spell off faster in combat. Used the 3 ASI from this background on INT.
Taking critiques, but mainly looking for what common item I may want to start with, and the spells that work best with Illusionist 1-10th level for this campaign. I have no clue on the new spells, this is my first time playing a wizard.
Appreciate any and all help shared from my fellow Wizards!
Are you doing a 2014 or 2024 version? I have 2024 book, so not really understanding some of your stats.
If 2024 which subclass are you choosing? I have an assumption, but want to confirm. Where are you getting scholar from?
Dude, use a little bit of critical thinking. We are in the wizard forum, and the title is illusionist build help, only one subclass fits illusioner for wizard. Not to mention, they said what subclass in post one.
I'm Balthoran formerly known as drizztlonedruid not particularly active but if we were on friendly terms feel free to DM me on discord my user is just balthoran
I'm a Roomba high cultist and a few other things
Avid supporter of 5e and an okay minmaxer
Former Archivist of various threads the rest you can figure out yourself

Alright, since you are an illusionist, take toll the dead, firebolt, mind sliver, mage hand and minor illusion as for first level spells take shield, mage armor, magic missile, disguise self and feel free to chose between expeditious retreat and silent image. for second level spells blur, mirror image, phantasmal force and misty step this build is meant for stalling though so keep it in mind

There aren't many common items that are relevant in combat but here are my suggestions clockwork amulet, enduring spellbook, hat of wizardry, instrument of illusions

That’s not how background asi works. You add 2 points to one ability score, and one point to another score. You can’t add all 3 to the same score. The highest you can start with (in point buy/array) is a 17.
For a common item, consider that a level 1 spell scroll is a common item. You could take one of those and add a spell to your spellbook.
