I am trying to play a wizard for the first time in my next campaign. I am looking up everything I can for learning new spells, copying them into the book, spell scrolls, etc.
I wanted to clarify one idea.
Is it possible to learn new cantrip and write them in the spell book? Or can I only get additional cantrips from things like multiclassing and feats?
At 4th level and again at 10th level a wizard can learn a new cantrip. Whenever the wizard finishes a long rest, they can change which cantrips they have prepared for the day (of the cantrips they know).

That's not quite how it works. Unlike leveled spells, Wizards do not have a set of "known" cantrips that they prepare a subset of every day. Wizards just have a set of cantrips they know, and they can access all of those cantrips all the time.
In 5.5e rules, they can swap one of them out for another cantrip on the Wizard list when they finish a long rest.

Sorry I misquoted the rule, here is the text I was trying to quote:
Cantrips. You know three Wizard cantrips of your choice. Light, Mage Hand, and Ray of Frost are recommended. Whenever you finish a Long Rest, you can replace one of your cantrips from this feature with another Wizard cantrip of your choice.

Playing D&D since 1982
Have played every version of the game since Basic (original Red Box Set), except that abomination sometimes called 4e.

To answer your original question more concisely: No, you can not learn extra cantrips by writing them into your spell book. Learning spells in this way is only for level 1+ spells, and not cantrips.
