So I started this character as an experiment, and have really enjoyed playing it. However, he's reached level 12, and I never anticipated the game would get to this level (nor do I normally get to play in a game which goes this far.
It's a dwarven war wizard who essentially started with an Headband of Intellect. (DM really liked the idea so he told me it would drop in the first arc). With a natural Int of 13, I haven't bothered with Int ASIs...no, I'll never get to Int 20, and I'm okay with that for this character.
So I'm looking for ideas for either a feat...or an alternate ASI. Currently, I'm at
There are a lot of good possibilities. First on feats:
Spell Sniper isn't a bad choice. Even though you're probably mixing it up in melee more often than other wizards, an additional cantrip and the ability to stay further away from the fray are always valuable.
Heavy Armor proficiency will get you some additional AC
Tough/Durable/Dwarven Durability will all boost your survivability. Which one will be the most useful will depend on how you play the character and what your particular game is like, but a hardy wizard is a dangerous wizard.
Elemental Adept will improve your effectiveness, especially if you like to use particular elements (Fire being a great one)
Keen Mind/Linguist/Observant will get you to 20 Int, but will also confer some additional benefits that might improve your utility beyond the spell book. Again, the specific one will depend on the nature of the game.
Or, if you want to boost your martial capabilities because you find yourself in melee combat a lot, Martial Adept will give you more options.
As far as ASI's go, 20 Con is certainly a good choice, as it plays well with your strengths. Boosting Dex to 14 would help, too, as you can get another AC out of that while still in medium armor, and it boosts your already great initiative score. You could also go for Strength 18, but I don't know how much you're participating in melee combat, so it probably isn't the best use of the boost.
^The half ASI feats wont get you to INT 20. Oh well.
You can't take Heavily armoured unless you're a mountain dwarf... and it doesn't net you the ability to use a shield.
One feat that might be interesting is Crossbow Expert. Then you can blast people at point blank range with ranged attack spells: Chromatic Orb, Scorching Ray, Crown of Stars and Storm Sphere (and your cantrips). If you wanna be right in the thick of it casting war magic.

Good catch on those feats. I forgot how the Headband works.
I’m probably landing on Alert or Resilient (Con). The initiative bonus would push me to +10 (you wouldn’t believe how often I forget to add my Int ...class bonus), and will help me add some control to the field before our warlock/thief/“I’m not a Gish but I’m always diving into the middle of things” gets in the AoE. And having an extra +4 on top of advantage for concentration checks...doesn’t suck.

I've thought about Con 20, Alert, and Lucky...and Alert seems to be the one I'm leaning towards...but I'm wondering if people have any neat ideas...

Thanks for all the great thoughts.
