I've been struggling really hard to make use of a Simic Scientist transmutation wizard. There are a bunch of spells I want to have for flavor, and I want to have as many buff spells as I can to help my allies... but most of the transmutation buff spells are concentration etc, etc...
So I have no idea what spells are really worth having from level up, versus better off spending excess gold on to copy. What do you guys have?

Trying to get your physical content on Beyond is like going to Microsoft and saying "I have a physical Playstation disk, give me a digital Xbox version!"
Not sure what level your proposed game will start at. Gonna assume 3. Trying to go for spells that support your buffing flavour. TBH sorcerers are better arcane buffers with their twin cast but good luck anyways!
Spells to get now: False Life, Expeditious Retreat, Protection from Good & Evil, Enlarge/Reduce (situational with party, its not good enough just for dmg), Levitate (make yourself or an archer untouchable by melee), Magic Weapon (There can be a gap between when DMs start trotting out resistance monsters and when they hand out +1 weapons)
Spells to get later: Longstrider, See Invisibility (Always have this up when you can in later levels. Sees lots of wierd things from ghosts to magic trap symbols), Featherfall, Invisibility (Slightly overrated in 5e)
Should be enough picks left over for you to pick offensive spells.
If you are a Transmutation wizard then you are a transmutation savant. Which means they cost 1/2 as much.
So paradoxically, Transmutation wizards should pick non-transmutation spells to get for free when they level up. Then pay to learn the transmutation spells. Same for each of the school based wizard sub-classes.
To fix this, I thought about a feat called Perfect Savant. It does nothing unless you take a Wizard class that grants you the Savant ability. If you take this feat and area Savant, then whenever you choose to learn 2 spells that qualify for your Savant, you get a 3rd one that also qualifies for free.
