Im working on a Necro wizard and trying to not overly focus on summon. more so on necro damage. what are some underappreciated spells i could maybe use?

I would recommend not using the Necromancer subclass, in that case. You'd be giving up the two big (arguably the two worthwhile) subclass features by not leaning into summoning/animating: Undead Thralls and Command Undead. Grim Harvest is nigh useless (you either tend to trigger it when you don't need it, so it's wasted, or you fail to trigger it when you do, because you're out of high level damage spells, or someone else gets the killshot), and Inured to Undeath, while nice, rarely comes into play. They're both very flavorful, but nowhere near as useful as the other two. (If you can get your DM to homebrew Grim Harvest into working with Cantrips, and/or giving temporary hit points instead of healing, it becomes significantly more useful.)
If you're going to focus on direct damage, maybe go for a Death Circle Cleric, or maybe an Undying Patron Warlock. They're both "necro", but not focused on summoning/animating/controlling undead. Or go for another School of Wizardry, and pick Necromancy spells (maybe Abjuration, or War Magic?).
Another suggestion might be to branch out into a second school; particularly for a Gnome, you might consider Necromancy + Illusion (Nelluonkkar). In addition to necrotic damage, you focus on fear effects and psychic damage.
