I've been playing around with the idea of a cantrip spamming spell sword kind of character. Im thinking of a sorceror who uses metamagic to get out cantrip attacks. But it got me wondering; would 2 cantrip attacks a turn really be that strong?
Like, if the bladesinger had access to replacing both their attacks with cantrips at level 5 after Tasha's, would it be strong, or still rather subpart to just using spells slots?
Cantrips as they exist now are in a way the spell version of weapon attacks. it can be useful to be able to cast them in multiple turns in a row as a more basic attack much as it's useful for a Warrior to swing their sword multiple times. But at the same time as the caster levels the Cantrips are kind of incorporating the multiple attacks all into one spell casting with the advantages and drawbacks that entails. So casting two cantrips in a turn would then be something a bit more similar to using Action Surge in that turn for the caster but without the ability to enhance those weapon attacks. For the enhanced attacks your looking more to your spell slots and casting spells with them instead.
