So I recently looked into the Wizard subclasses from "The Explorer's Guide to Wildemount"...and I must say, the two subclasses seem like a lot of fun.
"Graviturgy Magic" just seems like pure FUN...knocking enemies around, supporting your team...
...but "Chronurgy Magic" really interests me from a tactical perspective.
At a glance, of course, it bears similarities to Divination Wizards...forcing a re-roll on a reaction to substitute an attack roll, saving throw, or ability check...but the less-ironclad guarantee of what the roll will be (as opposed to writing it down beforehand) means that the Chronurgist will only use this at critical moments...making this a fairly well-balanced use for a Wizard's reaction.
The bonus to initiative is welcome...the ability to force a Constitution-Saving Throw to "freeze" an target on a bonus action is helpful...if only for a round, if no one attacks them...the "saving" of spells to be used by allies is a sweet tactical boon...and the capstone is VERY useful; at the the cost of a potentially dangerous condition...
...where I am having a bit of fun is: What kind of Wizard is this sort of character?
I picture time-travelling, of course...since they are dealing with time magic...so maybe my character has travelled back in time because of some terrible apocalyptic future?
Maybe the entire Material Plane was consumed by oozes, and they've come back to try and prevent it? (a good reason to have a grudge against a "particular" enemy type)
Maybe they're a Warforged sent back in time to protect one of the adventurers in your party (ala "The Terminator")?
Maybe a lich grew too powerful in the far-future; and the Chronurgist went back in time to hopefully prevent their rise to lichdom?
Maybe they ARE the lich..."Cloned", sent back in time, and memory-wiped" to ensure that the lich will rise in an unending time-loop (!).
Maybe the Wizard isn't a time-traveler; and is just your token "mad scientist"..."freezing" specimens they take an interest in using their "Momentary Stasis" feature?
...what are some of your ideas for a Wizard based around "Chronurgy Magic"?

Went comes to time travel and back stories I would recommend taking into account the level you're starting at to help determine things.
If you're rolling tier one play, you're more likely to be sent back in time or oops-ed your self there or by use of time travel relic. If on the other hand your rolling tier three play, then you're more likely to have the ability to make the move under your own power.

I’ve considered the implications of time-travel...and of course, the possibility of starting at low as Level 1.
There are a few ways to circumvent this:
”Time travel is rather easy! A bit of Conjuration without actually teleporting distance...some reverse-Divination to find the right sequence of events...then an an ABSURD amount of Evocation.”
”Technically, it COULD destroy you and erase you from existence...and it almost did!”
”But I was able to re-direct it to my spell book instead...which then disintegrated and erased all the knowledge contained therein from my memory. Also my clothes.”
”As well as a bit of my own memory, as well...mostly inconsequential, I’m sure...some extended family, the occasional fling, my middle name...time-travel has a funny way of asserting itself on your mental capacities....”
”I may even forget I’m not even from this timeline, ha ha!”
”...I’m sure it will all come back to me, eventually.”
”...now, to find a new spell book...”
”...what is a book, again?”
