Weapon (crossbow, light), uncommon (requires attunement by a Any character may attune to this item.)

An ordinary looking light crossbow with a small sandglass embedded in the stock above the trigger.

Loaded Fire:
If loaded and fired, the projectile launches out of the crossbow and immediately gets stuck mid-air.  Frozen projectiles behave like IMMOVABLE RODS as long as they are stuck. When unfrozen, they immediately resume flight, as if just fired.

Ammunition Behavior:
If no bolts are frozen, the first bolt fired causes the sandglass in the stock to begin counting down.  The sandglass runs out after 7 days.  Bolts fired and left alone unfreeze automatically once the sandglass empties. Until then, the bolts are immovable and indestructible by mundane means (see below for means of dislodging).

Max Fire Limit:
Without attunement, a maximum of 3 bolts can be fired and frozen concurrently (see Attunement below).  Once this maximum number of bolts are frozen in place, the trigger locks, whenever more ammunition is loaded.  The trigger can only be pulled at this point to perform a dry-fire.  The trigger unlocks once the sandglass resets.

Dry Firing:
When the crossbow is dry-fired (cocked and fired with no ammunition loaded,) the sandglass immediately resets, and all currently-frozen bolts are instantly unfrozen, flying forward at full power.

Attunement:
For every 2 out-of-game hours that a single player solely possesses the crossbow, a single level of attunement is gained.  The crossbow must be used at least once during each of these periods for it to count. For each level of attunement gained, the crossbow will allow the user to fire one additional bolt beyond the previous limit before locking the trigger.

Attempting to Fire Beyond the Max Fire Limit:
Loading more bolts than the current max fire limit causes the trigger to lock, and the crossbow will not fire. Such a bolt must be unloaded, and the crossbow dry-fired to uncock it (which will reset the sandglass and release all currently time-frozen bolts). If the extra bolt is removed from the primed crossbow, the trigger will unlock, and the crossbow can only be stored or slung after being unprimed (sandglass runs out, or crossbow is dry-fired).
