Ring, artifact

Nooop was a monk of Aasternian whose fighting skills were legendary.  In his younger years, would-be champions would come from all over the world to challenge him and test their abilities (the fact that many challengers never fought again just raised the monk's reputation).  As Nooop grew older, he became tired of the constant challenges, so he asked the temple's artificers to craft him this ring, which he fitted to his bo staff in order to dissuade new challengers from attacking him.

This silver ring is roughly 2" tall and appears at first glance to be roughly 6" in diameter.  It is inlaid with an ancient draconic phrase, written in flourishing script, which roughly translates to "uh-uh." If the ring is placed on a staff, quarterstaff, club, or bo staff, or similar weapon, it will fit snugly on the end, regardless of the item's thickness.  The ring's magical properties may only be accessed by connecting it in this way to a melee weapon that does bludgeoning damage.

The ring has 5 charges, which are replenished each day at dawn.  If the wielder successfully hits a creature with the weapon the ring is attached to while while forcefully invoking the name of the ring's initial owner ("Nooop!"), the ring expends one charge.  The weapon also deals its damage, as normal.

When the ring expends a charge, the creature it strikes must make a successful WIS saving throw (DC 14).  On a failed save, the creature will be unable to attack the wielder for 1d10 rounds.  If the affected target had attacked in wielder in a previous round of the same encounter, then on a failed save they will also feel extremely sheepish and feel compelled to apologize.

If the wielder rolls a critical hit on an attack where the ring uses a charge, or if the affected target critically fails their saving throw, then the target will completely disengage from the encounter and leave the area by the most expeditious route possible, reconsidering all of the life choices they made up to that point as they go.
