Sentience. Yuehan's Handaxe of Coral is a sentient lawful good weapon with an Intelligence of 14, a Wisdom of 18, and a Charisma of 20. It has hearing and darkvision out to 120 feet. 

The weapon communicates telepathically with its wielder and can speak, read, and understand Common, Draconic, Celestial, and Giant.

Personality. The spirit of a kind paladin named Yuehan lives within Yuehan's Handaxe of Coral. The weapon values the safety of those weaker than their wielder or the paladin themselves and encourages its wielder to help those in need. It pushes its wielder to perform acts of kindness and praises them for protecting those weaker than themselves. 

 

Dormant

The handaxe grants the following benefits when attuned to in its dormant state:

  • You can speak, read and write in Celestial, Draconic, and Giant.
  • You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls with this magical weapon. When you hit a creature with this weapon you deal an extra 1d8 radiant damage.
  • When thrown, hit or miss, this weapon returns immediately.
  • Mind Link. Twice a day, you can use a bonus action to cast the spell detect thoughts without the use of spell components. The saving throw for the use of this spell is WIS 15.
  • Paladin's Blessing. You can use an action to touch a creature while the handaxe remains on your person, healing the target for (3d8+3) hit points. You cannot use the ability again until the completion of a long rest.

Awakened

When the handaxe reaches its awakened state, it gains the following properties:

  • The weapon's bonus to attack and damage rolls increases to +2 and deals an extra 1d6 fire damage.
  • The number of times that detect thoughts can be used through the use of Mind Link is increased to 4. The saving throw is increased to WIS 18.
  • The hit points restored by the Paladin’s Blessing ability increase to (5d8+6) and the target is freed from any curses, disease, poison, blindness, and deafness.
  • Disease Defence. The wielder is immune to being diseased.

Exalted

When the handaxe reaches its exalted state, it gains the following properties:

  • The weapon's bonus to attack and damage rolls increases to +3 and deals an extra die of fire and radiant damage.
  • The number of times that detect thoughts can be used through the use of Mind Link is increased to 6. The saving throw is increased to WIS 22.
  • The hit points restored by the Paladin's Blessing ability become 60, and the creature can use a reaction to stand up from prone when they are healed.
  • Disease Defense now in addition provides immunity to being poisoned, blindness, and deafness.

Proficiency with a Handaxe allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.


This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.
