Posted Nov 16, 2024I expected them to nerf this ring with the buff to the jump spell, but nope. Just a 20 ft increase in movement (which is resistant to difficult terrain) at the cost of a single bonus action per combat. This feels insane. My ranger suddenly got a huge upgrade. First time I got to use it we were attacked by river pirates and I was jumping from raft to raft just shoving baddies down current. It was quite fun. 2014 that jump would have been all my movement, so I couldn't close the last 5-10 ft of distance.

Posted Feb 21, 2026The jump spell is nerfed for everyone with a strength score higher than 10 though. If they have a 10 ft run up, (i.e. the same as the cost in this new spell), creatures can jump a number of ft equal to their strength score, and the old jump spell tripled your jump distance, i.e. str (10) = 10*3 = 30 ft long jump, so the same as this spell. This means that if you have a strength score of 12 then you lose 6 ft of distance due to this spell change. Not only does this nerf all of these characters jump distance, this also can't stack with other jump buffs like a focused step of the wind, which doubles your jump distance, since it's no longer a conventional jump, just this independent thing that is an option for your character each round. NOT ONLY THIS, but this only allows you to perform it once per turn. Unless I am missing something this is a massive nerf to not only the jump spell, but also this item.
*Edit: I have just seen that jump is a bonus action now, so I guess maybe it's a slight buff at best, neutral at worst
