Wondrous Item, very rare
This tome contains information and incantations necessary to make a stone golem. To decipher and use the manual, you must be a spellcaster with at least two 5th-level spell slots. A creature that can't use a manual of golems and attempts to read it takes 6d6 psychic damage.
To create a stone golem, you must spend 90 days, working without interruption with the manual at hand and resting no more than 8 hours per day. You must also pay 80,000 gp to purchase supplies.
Once you finish creating the golem, the book is consumed in eldritch flames. The golem becomes animate when the ashes of the manual are sprinkled on it. It is under your control, and it understands and obeys your spoken commands.
Notes: Creation, Consumable
Kind of annoying that you need another manual every time you make a golem.
might be a balancing thing
But it already takes 80,000 Gp and 90 days
The game makes you roll to see how good the golem you get is. 15% chance of getting the OP options (10% stone and 5% Iron). The rest are ok (being flesh and clay) when I got this item I rolled the stone golem and my dm had to put up with it for a while. And I mean awhile, my cleric kept mending it after every battle, and it essentially served as a magically resistant tank on the frontlines.
Makes sense to make it a one-time use event. What bugs me is the material cost 80,000 gp for Stone and 100,000 gp for Iron. If you DM is a low reward dm it could take ridiculously high levels to even have access to the creation process. But if you get one of the two better golems the item is 100% worth it and its not an attunement item so that's a huge bonus.
did you know that a clay golem could not only easily take on a terrasque, but would pick a fight with one just to heal itself?
purple worm, maybe, but idk tarrasque. tarrasque guts are said to have disjunctive properties
Please explain.
its canon that the tarrasque's stomach acids have magic stripping properties so strong that they're one of the only known ways to destroy an artifact level item. if a magic creature like a golem went in it'd likely have the magic keeping it mobile stripped away till they're basically a statue. so while they will heal in acid damage they can pretty quickly lose magic and die that way
