Homebrew Bluggatin Species Details

Bluggatin is loosely translated as Cursed One in Giant. They are created when the two souls bound with an Ettin are split upon the death of one of the heads. Such events are rare and those that survive it are often ostracized by their own people, either forced to live in seclusion, exiled, or, even, killed. The way in which they process their trauma—vengeance, misery, or chasing what they've lost—is often their defining factor.

Some Bluggatin retain the personality or memories from one of the prior heads, some combination from both of the heads, or awaken as a blank slate with no memories of their past life. Surviving the process to become a Bluggatin is only the first hurdle—those who remember their prior experiences are often driven to madness or consumed with grief. Those who overcome this existential crisis are left with impressive resilience.

Note: The Ettin are another Homebrew species.

Typical Habitats

Bluggatin rarely live amongst Ettin even when not cast out. They are likely to have trouble fitting into society and tend to live on the outskirts. In rare circumstances, they may band together to form small villages with others of their kind, but many find this a difficult reminder of what they've lost. The rarity of the species make them an uncommon sight for most people; however, their proclivities make them well suited for adventurer or mercenary life.

Creating a Bluggatin

It is recommended that you start as an Ettin rather than a Bluggatin. If you decide to start as Bluggatin, consider the two personalities that were within the Ettin and determine the events that lead to your creation before creating the personality of the Bluggatin.

2014 Rules

This species was designed for the 2024 rules. To use this with the 2014 rules, add the Additional Features from the Origin Manager. The Ability Score Increases should match those of the Ettin.
