Homebrew Kitsune Species Details

Creatures of unparalleled beauty and grace, Kitsune were once hunted for their fur, said to have magical properties if woven delicately, or as pests. They evolved to be able to hide amongst the masses, taking on whatever form best suits the environment they find themselves in. As spiritual beings, they live long, dutiful lives, and often are part of massive changes in the world.

Like foxes and many Fey, those who have learned about Kitsune know them to be Tricksters, loving pranks and riddles. Due to their past being hunted, they rarely reveal their true nature as a Kitsune, except the most naive or the bravest.

If you create a kitsune character, follow these additional rules during character creation.

Ability Score Increases

When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one of those scores by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. Follow this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy.

You can also choose to keep the granted +2 CHA and +1 DEX

Languages

Your character can speak, read, and write Common and one other language.

Creature Type

Every creature in D&D, including every player character, has a special tag in the rules that identifies the type of creature they are. Most player characters, are of the Humanoid type, with the exception of some, which are granted the Fey type.

Life Span

The typical life span of a kitsune is unknown, as they are rumoured to be unable to die due to aging. A kitsune will gain one tail, to a maximum of 9, every 100 years, so many track a kitsune's age by their tails, although after 900 years, no one can tell any more.

Height and Weight

Your average height is anything about 3ft to just over 6ft, though in rare cases they can be larger or smaller than this range. On average, you will weigh about 60-90 pounds if you're small, or 110+ if you're medium.

Shapechangers
