Homebrew Zuggtmoy Myconid Species Details

Ranging anywhere from 4 to 6 feet Zuggtmoy Myconids are many shades of green fungi creatures who come in all shapes and sizes.Their physical features vary greatly from circle to circle and even within the circles themselves. The inside of a myconid has a soft texture similar to that of a mushroom however their bones are near the surface, and are hard and have a seemingly metallic feel. Because of their fungi origins myconids are very light, however, their endoskeleton does contribute something and they are usually between 20-40 pounds. Though they are of a similar height to humans they are slow to move, however, their tough natural hide makes up for the disadvantage. All myconids have an aversion to sunlight and most do not wear clothes.

(This race is generally designed for use for Myconid NPC's if the DM wants to give them classes or just make them stronger than their normal CR. Aside from the Animating Spores, the original spore features are replaced by the Zuggtmoy's Empowerment Variant from Out of the Abyss but Zuggtmoy's spore features make it more powerful than a player character race should be so keep that in mind.)

Ability Score Increase

Your Wisdom score increases by 2 and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Superior Darkvision

Accustomed to the darkness of the underdark, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern colors in darkness, only shades of grey.

Sun Sickness

While in direct sunlight, unless otherwise concealed, you have disadvantage on Strength, Dexterity and Constitution based ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws.

Animating Spores (1/Long Rest)

As an action you target one corpse of a humanoid or a Large or smaller beast within 5 feet of it and releases spores at the corpse. In 24 hours, the corpse rises as a spore servant. The corpse stays animated for 1d4 + 1 weeks or until destroyed, and it can't be animated again in this way.

Caustic Spores (1/Long Rest)

As an action you release spores in a 30-foot cone. Each creature inside the cone must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or take 3 (1d6) acid damage at the start of each of your turns. The save DC is 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of its turn, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Euphoria Spores (1/Long Rest)

As an action you release a cloud of spores in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on yourself. Other creatures in that area must each succeed on a Constitution saving throw or become poisoned for 1 minute. The save DC is 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect early on itself on a success. When the effect ends on it, the creature gains one level of exhaustion.

Infestation Spores (1/Long Rest)

As an action you release spores that burst out in a cloud that fills a 10-foot-radius sphere centered on it, and the cloud lingers for 1 minute. Any flesh-and-blood creature in the cloud when it appears, or that enters it later, must make a Constitution saving throw. The save DC is 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. On a successful save, the creature can't be infected by these spores for 24 hours. On a failed save, the creature is infected with a disease called the spores of Zuggtmoy) and also gains a random form of indefinite madness (determined by rolling on the Madness of Zuggtmoy table) that lasts until the creature is cured of the disease or dies. While infected in this way, the creature can't be reinfected, and it must repeat the saving throw at the end of every 24 hours, ending the infection on a success. On a failure, the infected creature's body is slowly taken over by fungal growth, and after three such failed saves, the creature dies and is reanimated as a spore servant if it's a humanoid or a Large or smaller beast.
