You create a 20 foot diameter ring of shadow like flames on a spot you can see within range. The flames give off no heat or light.
Creatures that start their turn or enter the area make an Intelligence saving throw, taking 5d6 Psycic damage on a failure or half as much on a success. Additionally, creatures that fail their saving throw have their movement reduced to 0 feet. Creatures that failed their save and are within the area of effect at the start of their turn take an additional 2d6 Psycic damage and can make another saving throw, ending the spell effect on a success.
Due to the severe psycic trauma endured from this spell, there is a 5 percent chance that when a creature is reduced to 0 hit points by this spells effect, they become a Shadow. The Shadow is under the control of the DM and is drawn to the nearest portal that leads to the Shadowfell. It only attacks if any one tries to prevent it from leaving the area.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, the initial and additional damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 4th.
Additionally, there is a 5 percent increase to the chance of a Shadow being created per spell slot above 4th level used. Up to a 30 percent chance when using a 9th level spell slot.
