You return a dead creature you touch to life, provided that it has been dead for longer than 10 days, but not longer than 100 years. If the creature's soul is both willing and at liberty to rejoin the body, the creature returns to life with 1 hit point but remains unconscious. After the creature's revival, they cannot be healed by any means for 24 hours. If an attempt to heal the creature is made, they will instead take damage equal to the healing they would have received. After 24 hours have passed, the creature will regain consciousness and can be healed normally again.
This spell neutralizes any poisons and cures all diseases that affected the creature at the time it died even magical diseases, curses, or similar effects.
This spell closes all mortal wounds and restores all missing body parts. The time it takes for the target's body to reform is 1 day for every percent of the body not used as a component in the spell. An entire skeleton accounts for 20% of a body for a baseline. The 24-hour period of unconsciousness following the creature’s revival begins once the body has been completely reformed.
Coming back from the dead after so long is an ordeal. The target takes a −4 penalty to all attack rolls, saving throws, and ability checks. Every time the target finishes a long rest, the penalty is reduced by 1 until it disappears.
While the original version of this spell requires the aid of a divine being, such as a god, this version does not; that is why a sacrifice is required to perform this spell. Since no divine being is called upon to find and return the soul of the deceased individual, the wizard must find the soul themself by following its path through the afterlife. The wizard casting this spell must envelop the sacrifice's soul in magical energy and project it through the target's remains. By doing this, the sacrifice's soul will carry the caster's mind along the same ethereal pathway that the target's soul took. Once the caster finds the target's soul, they must shroud it in necromantic power and have it latch onto their magical energy. Then, the caster can release the sacrifice's soul. Without the sacrifice's soul tethering the caster's magical energy, it will snap back to their body, taking the target's soul that has latched onto that power with it. The shroud of necromantic energy allows the target's soul to pass through the veil of death and into the world of life with ease, as well as is what reconstructs the target's body. It takes a while to dissipate, causing the newly revived target to remain unconscious and unable to be healed for a day after their body's reconstruction.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 9th level, the time after the revival of the creature where it remains unconscious and unable to be healed, as well as the time limit of 100 years are removed.
