You can focus your awareness on the region around you. For 1 minute per level of the spell slot you expend, you can sense whether any of the following types of creatures are present within 5 Miles of you: aberrations, celestials, dragons, elementals, fey, fiends, and undead. This feature doesn’t reveal the exact location or number, but you can sense the cardinal direction of the creatures.
Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot.
2nd level: You learn whether one or many creatures of each detected type are present.
3rd level: You also learn the approximate distance category: Very close (within 1 mile), Nearby (1–3 miles), Distant (3–5 miles)
4th level: You learn whether the creatures are moving or stationary.
5th level: You can focus on one detected creature type to gain a rough location zone (such as “the northern ridge,” “beneath the ruins,” or “within the forest canopy”), at the DM’s discretion.
